The last 4 years have been boom years for smart phones. A vast proportion of people have access to smart phones that do more things than one could ever imagine, thanks in part to the emergence of third party apps. Below we have outlined 10 of our favourite apps for architects!
Open Buildings
I briefly covered Open Building here in a previous post. A great website and app for architects and building lovers interested in learning more about the built environment around them, or inform others where they are!

Architecture
Simple name, simple app. This app does one thing, and one thing only: serves up great Architecture photos. For what the app offers the price is possibly slightly on the steep side, but it does have some fantastic photos. If you ever need instant inspiration, what could be more convenient that a pocket full of great architecture!?

Design Observer
An app for the popular designobserver.com website. Essentially this app doesn’t really offer anything that isn’t on the actual site itself, but instead takes all the content and wraps it in a tidy iPhone friendly aesthetic. A great place to go catch up on the architectural and design news of the day (after coming here, obviously).

3D Builder Bricks
If you’re an architect, chances are you love Lego. This little beauty of an app is a world of lego-esque fun right in the palm of your hand! This app wont make your working like easier, it wont allow you to accurately demonstrate a conceptual design to a client, but god its fun, and well worth the teenie tiny price!

GlobeConvert Currency and Units Converter
There are literally too many converter apps in the store! With such an abundance its easy to get confused and lost, and end up paying for one (which you don’t need to do). Globe convert is a swiss army knife of conversions, covering all the usual suspects (weight, length, area, speed etc). With so many available in the store, why did we choose this one? Well the architect is a fickle beast, and aesthetics are uber important. To us, this is by far the best looking of all the converter apps.

2Do
Architects need to be organised. The year is 2010, and its about time we stop hoarding pieces of paper in any available pocket in the hope we will remember to check our appointments before we miss them. 2Do is an elegant todo application that helps you keep track of your tasks. Well presented and easy to navigate. By far the best app for simply, easy to use organisation.
